The Opportunity:
We're hiring a Director of Product & Merchandising to lead our private label development, drive category expansion, and provide strategic merchandising leadership. This role reports directly to the CEO and is a critical member of our leadership team.
What You'll Do:
Strategic Merchandising Leadership
Partner with CEO on overall merchandising strategy
Analyze performance by category, designer, price point
Drive margin optimization through product mix, assortment planning, private label penetration
Identify new category opportunities
Oversee designer buying strategy
Lead Private Label Development
Build and scale private label from concept to material revenue stream including category expansion
Source and manage manufacturing partners
Manage sample development, production timelines, quality control, inventory planning
Build financial models for each product line
Partner with Marketing Director on go-to-market strategy
Cross-Functional Collaboration + Team Leadership
Partner with Executive Team
Manage buying and merchandising team
Who You Are:
Required Experience:
5-8+ years in merchandising, buying, or product development (retail or brand side)
Proven experience building or scaling private label programs (this is critical)
Specialty retail, fashion, or lifestyle brand background (not mass market)
Financial acumen: you can build P&Ls, analyze margins, make data-driven decisions
Vendor/sourcing experience: you've worked with overseas manufacturers, understand MOQs, production
Required Skills:
Merchant mindset: you think about product mix, margin, assortment, customer needs
Product development: you can take concept → sample → production → launch
Financial modeling: you can build business cases, calculate ROI, analyze category P&L
Project management: you can manage timelines, vendors, cross-functional teams
Creative + analytical: you balance aesthetic vision with commercial reality
Required traits:
Entrepreneurial: you love building something from scratch, not just maintaining what exists
Strategic: you see opportunities, not just execute tasks
Autonomous: you take ownership, solve problems, don't wait to be told what to do
Collaborative: you partner well with CEO (creative direction), Marketing (storytelling), Finance (modeling)
Adaptable: you're comfortable with ambiguity, pivoting, learning as you go
Bonus Points:
Bridal, wedding, or special occasion fashion experience
Experience in founder-led or entrepreneurial environments
Design background or strong aesthetic sense
Experience with Anthropologie, Free People, Reformation, Madewell, or similar specialty brands
MBA or fashion/design degree (not required, but nice to have)
THE GOODS:
Compensation:
Total Compensation: $105,000 - $138,000 at target achievement
