The Opportunity:

We're hiring a VP of Store Operations based in Denver or Dallas to lead day-to-day operations across our 13 retail locations, manage our District Managers, and oversee our people operations function (HR, training, recruiting). This role reports directly to the CEO and is a critical member of our leadership team.

This is not a typical "retail operations" role. We need someone who:

  • Values culture as much as metrics

  • Leads with a developmental (not punitive) approach

  • Understands that creativity and experience are our competitive advantage

  • Can balance operational excellence with the flexibility required in specialty retail

  • Thinks strategically about people, not just processes

If you've thrived in specialty retail environments or similar mission-driven brands this could be your dream role.

What You'll Do:

Lead Store Operations

  • Manage 2-3 District Managers overseeing 13 (and growing) stores

  • Provide strategic direction, problem-solving, and guardrails for DMs

  • Drive operational excellence: sales performance, customer experience, visual merchandising standards

  • Own store metrics: revenue, conversion, retention, profitability

  • Manage store openings and expansion

  • Partner with CEO on store strategy, market selection, and growth planning

  • Be the escalation point for store crises, major personnel decisions, and complex customer issues

Lead People Operations

  • Oversee HR Manager (who manages onboarding, benefits, compliance, employee relations)

  • Oversee Trainer/Recruiter (who manages recruiting, training programs, hiring pipeline)

  • Own talent strategy: recruiting, retention, performance management, succession planning

  • Build and protect our culture across all locations (developmental, inclusive, fun)

  • Partner with CEO and HR Manager on compensation philosophy, organizational structure, and team development

  • Ensure compliance with employment law across 10+ states

Strategic & Leadership

  • Member of executive leadership team

  • Contribute to company strategy, annual planning, and growth initiatives

  • Represent a&bé and anna bé externally when needed

  • Mentor and develop your team for long-term growth

Who You Are:

Required Experience:

  • 8-12+ years in retail operations, with at least 5 years managing multi-unit stores

  • Experience managing District Managers or multi-site leaders (not just direct store management)

  • Proven track record in specialty retail, boutique retail, or mission-driven brands (not big box)

  • Experience with HR/people operations (either direct management or close partnership)

  • Comfortable with 10-20 location complexity (you've managed this scale or are ready for it)

Required Leadership Style:

  • Developmental, not punitive — you build people up, create psychological safety, coach through failures

  • Comfortable with creativity and ambiguity — you don't need rigid corporate structure

  • Thoughtful decision-maker — you balance urgency with quality, don't rush everything

  • Authentic and relational — you connect with people, not just manage them

  • Culture champion — you understand that culture IS the business in specialty retail

Required Skills:

  • Strong operational acumen (P&L management, KPIs, performance analysis)

  • People development expertise (you love growing talent, not just managing tasks)

  • Problem-solving ability (you can handle ambiguity, crises, and complexity)

  • Communication skills (you can rally teams, give feedback, present to leadership)

  • Systems thinking (you build processes that scale)

Bonus Points:

  • Experience in bridal, fashion, or lifestyle retail

  • Experience building or working with private label programs

  • Experience with company growth/expansion (opening new stores, entering new markets)

  • HR or training background (formal or informal)

  • Experience in founder-led or entrepreneurial retail environments

What Makes us Different (Culture Fit is Critical):

We're NOT:

  • Corporate retail with rigid processes and top-down hierarchy

  • A place where metrics matter more than people

  • An environment where mistakes are punished vs. learned from

  • A company that prioritizes efficiency over experience

We ARE:

  • Mission-driven (every bride deserves a good time and a good dress)

  • Values-led (authenticity, inclusion, fun, community, design, integrity, improving)

  • Developmental (we invest in people, create psychological safety, coach vs. criticize)

  • Creative (we try new things, pilot programs, embrace imperfection)

  • Thoughtful (we make good decisions, not fast decisions)

If you:

  • Get energized by building culture, not just hitting targets

  • Love specialty retail but hate corporate bureaucracy

  • Want to be part of something meaningful, not just a job

  • Think operationally but lead with heart

  • Value autonomy and trust (we don't micromanage)

...then you'll thrive here.

THE GOODS:

Compensation:

  • Total Compensation: $210,000 - $235,000 based on experience and target achievement

Benefits:

  • Medical dental and vision insurance with a company contribution

  • 401(k) with employer match

  • Generous PTO policy (we value rest and recharge)

  • Remote work flexibility (some travel required, but you're not in stores 24/7)

  • Employee discount (because you'll want a&bé x anna be for your own wedding or someone you love)

Travel and location:

  • 30-40% (visiting stores, supporting DMs, attending events)

  • Based in Denver or Dallas
